Year 7 & 8 Workshop Inspires a Love of Reading
Year 7 and Year 8 students enjoyed an inspiring and engaging reading workshop, led by Miss Holland, Miss Vincent and Mrs Adamson, which celebrated the power of language, storytelling and cultural diversity.
The session featured a unique and memorable experience, as our talented EAL students shared readings in their first languages. Alongside them, other students confidently read excerpts from a wide range of books kindly loaned by the Institut Français.
Students were immersed in a rich variety of languages, including Ukrainian, Spanish, Portuguese, German, English, French, Polish and Bulgarian. The workshop offered a wonderful opportunity to hear different voices and perspectives, helping to broaden cultural understanding while celebrating the diverse backgrounds within our school community.
A highlight of the session was seeing so many students step forward to read aloud—whether in a language new to them or one they speak fluently. Our visiting students from Spain also contributed, adding to the international feel of the event.
The workshop forms part of our support for the Go All In Year of Reading, encouraging pupils to embrace reading in all its forms and to explore literature beyond their usual choices. It also aligns with the wider National Year of Reading, promoting reading for pleasure and lifelong learning.
Books from the session will be available in the library on Wednesday lunchtime, giving more students the chance to take part and experience reading in different languages.
We extend our sincere thanks to Mrs Adamson, our librarian, for her support in organising this enriching event, as well as to all staff and students who made it such a success.
