Creative Day with Local Artist: Students Explore the World of Georgia O’Keeffe

Last week, our Art Department hosted an exciting artist-in-residence workshop led by talented local artist, Claire Somerville.

Claire spent the day working closely with a group of enthusiastic and imaginative students, guiding them through a creative exploration of the bold and expressive style of iconic American artist, Georgia O’Keeffe. Students learned about O’Keeffe’s use of colour, scale and abstraction, and had the opportunity to experiment with these techniques in their own work.

Throughout the day, the art studio was a hive of activity, filled with bold colours, floral forms and creative energy. The students produced individual pieces inspired by O’Keeffe’s distinct style, with Claire offering encouragement, insight and personalised feedback to each one.

The workshop concluded with a final group photo — a vibrant celebration of both the students’ achievements and the joyful spirit of the day.

We are incredibly grateful to Claire Somerville for sharing her time, expertise and passion with our students.

It was a truly inspiring experience, and we look forward to welcoming her back in the future.
