Since starting freestyle football 2 years ago, it’s been quite a journey for Kumi Ward!

From initially posting videos of 10 keepy uppies with a few followers, Kumi went on to thousands of tricks and countless hours of practice. Then came a top 10 finish in a Worldwide Youth freestyle competition. Kumi now has over 30,000 followers, along with hookups with numerous companies including Rascal and Azun. It’s been quite a rise for our year 10 student!

Most recently, Kumi has been involved in her first dip into the world of TV, with 2 days filming in London with Sky TV for the ‘Kick It Out’ campaign.

Kumi describes “I had an amazing 2 days with Sky TV filming in London. It was an awesome opportunity to delve into the world of media. Shooting footage in a variety of locations using a number of methods; film, still and drone. Day 1 started by being introduced to the other athletes. These included semi-pro/academy footballers, influencers, freestylers and a variety of other players. It was amazing to immediately gel with a varied and mixed group of all cultures and ages. The director even commenting that it seemed we’d known each other for years! Day 1 was spent filming in and around Crystal Palace, following on to Ladbroke Grove and Wormwood Scrubs on day 2. The days filming were hard work but enjoyable. The time flew as it was a constant stream of different tasks being asked of us by the film crew. Nothing normally phases me while doing freestyle, but having a cameraman so close as to almost kicking him in the face was a bit daunting.

All in all, it was an amazing experience, and I look forward to seeing the results when they are broadcast.”
