Celebrating Our Service Students: Month of the Military Child at Thomas Adams School
This April, Thomas Adams School is proud to celebrate the Month of the Military Child. This national initiative recognises the strength and resilience of children from Armed Forces families.
We are home to 59 service children. Each of them brings unique experiences and perspectives to our school community.
As part of our celebrations, a group of students led a special assembly called “Walking in Our Shoes”. They shared short memoirs about what it’s like to grow up in a military family. These stories gave a powerful insight into their daily lives—the highs, the challenges, and everything in between.
We also hosted a red, white and blue themed rewards lunch in the library. This was a fun and relaxed opportunity for service children across different year groups to come together, build friendships, and support one another.
Throughout the year, we also run Reading Force Workshops. These weekly sessions offer a safe space for military students to read, reflect, and talk. They have helped highlight some of the real challenges our students face. These include frequent moves, changes in schools, long separations from family, and disruptions to healthcare. Many also speak about feeling isolated or anxious at times.
To help raise awareness, we created a special display in the library. It will be available for one week and offers more information for staff and students.
At Thomas Adams, we are proud of our service children. This month is a time to listen, support and celebrate everything they bring to our school.
