National Storytelling Week 2026: Soundtrack Your Story
We are delighted to be celebrating National Storytelling Week 2026 with a range of activities for students in Years 7–9, as part of the National Year of Reading.
This year’s theme, “Soundtrack your story”, encourages young writers to explore how sound, music and atmosphere can be used to enhance storytelling and bring creative writing to life.
Throughout the week, students in Years 7–9 will be taking part in creative writing lessons led by the English Department, all focused on the national theme. These sessions are designed to inspire imagination, develop writing skills and build confidence in storytelling.
In addition, our Heads of Year will be sharing their favourite books and stories during assemblies, helping to promote a love of reading and storytelling across the year groups.
Students also have the opportunity to enter a national creative writing competition, details of which are shown on the poster attached. The competition is being coordinated through the Library, and the deadline for entries is 26 February, giving students plenty of time to work on their writing — including over the half-term break.
National Storytelling Week is also a wonderful opportunity to share favourite books and stories at home, encouraging conversations about reading and creativity beyond the classroom.
We look forward to celebrating the fantastic ideas and stories our students create during the week.
