2026 has been designated the National Year of Reading, a nationwide effort to tackle declining rates of reading for pleasure among children and young people. Rather than telling students that reading is good for them, this initiative focuses on making reading enjoyable and engaging.

At Thomas Adams School, we’re proud to support this campaign with a range of activities designed to spark curiosity and enthusiasm for books. Students can earn house points for reading-related achievements such as recommending books, writing reviews, or simply getting “caught reading.” We’ll also be promoting library use with easy access passes and offering poetry posters to brighten up classrooms and corridors.

Our message is clear: when students read for fun, all the other benefits—improved literacy, creativity, and academic success—will follow. Stay tuned for more updates and opportunities to get involved as we launch this exciting programme later this month!
