Oswestry Youth Music Festival 2025

The Thomas Adams School and Sixth Form Achieve Success in the Oswestry Youth Music Festival

The 2025 Oswestry Youth Music Festival ran from Tuesday 25th February to Sunday 2nd March and is a true celebration of youth music. Now running for over 40 years, the festival was initially founded in 1977 as a one-off event to celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. As well as musicians from Oswestry, there are entries from across Shropshire, north and mid-Wales, Cheshire and beyond!

We had several of our talented musical students participating, with the following singers competing throughout the week:

Ewan Johnson: 15 & under Classical, Pop, Musical Theatre solo
Nina Perks: 18 & under Musical Theatre solo and duet
Phoebe Stewart: 18 & under Musical Theatre, Pop, and duet
Alice Arthan and Izzy Wales: 15 & under Duet
Joe Munro: 18 & under Pop, Musical Theatre solos, and duet
Louisa Lee: 18 & under Pop, Musical Theatre solos, and duet
Sophie Meredith: 18 & under Musical Theatre and Operetta solo
Alice Whitfield: Under 13 Musical Theatre solo and Under 13 Classical

Year 8 student, Alice Whitfield, won her Under 13 Musical Theatre class. She sang “How Far I’ll Go” from Disney’s Moana to take first place in her solo performance and won The Hancock trophy.

Sixth Formers, Louisa Lee, won the Under 18 Pop Selection and Sophie Meredith won the Under 18 Musical Theatre and Operatta solo.

In addition, Harry Lipson in Year 7 was also a winner for the Under 13 Piano solo piece. He also performed Clocks by Coldplay for the Under 13 individual choice and came third in the class. In addition, he did 2 piano solos, one with his younger brother and one with a friend. He got second and third in these so a successful day all-round!

The festival featured 90 classes involving 1,000 young people from over 40 schools. It had a record-breaking number of musicians taking part, including solo instrumentalists, orchestras, rock bands, solo vocalists, choirs, and musical ensembles.
