Students at Adams House recently enjoyed a fascinating visit from PC Emma Worrall, a police dog handler with West Mercia Police, who shared an insight into the vital role police dogs play in keeping our communities safe.
Boarders and Sixth Form students were delighted to meet Emma and hear about her career, the specialist training involved and the important work carried out by police dog teams. However, it was Emma’s four-legged colleagues, Riley and Douglas (Dougie), who quickly became the stars of the afternoon.
Riley is a general-purpose police dog, trained to assist with a wide range of operational duties, while Dougie is a specialist sniffer dog trained to detect drugs. Emma shared real-life examples of the bravery, skill and dedication demonstrated by both dogs while working to protect the public.
Students were also treated to an exciting live demonstration as Dougie showcased his incredible scent detection abilities. After Emma hid a training scent in the garden, Dougie quickly and accurately located it, impressing everyone watching.
The visit provided a unique opportunity for students to learn more about policing, teamwork and the specialist skills required by both handlers and their dogs.
A huge thank you to PC Emma Worrall, Riley and Dougie for taking the time to visit Adams House and for the incredible work they do every day to help keep our communities safe.
