Richard Meyrick, an international concert pianist, visited our Music department on Tuesday 10th March.  Richard gave an hour and a half piano masterclass to students who all play the piano.

Professional pianist Richard travels the length and breadth of the UK as part of ‘The Pianoman Scholarships Scheme’, a national programme to encourage and nurture talented young pianists, courtesy of sponsors Sir Harvey and Lady McGrath.

Six pianists bravely performed in the workshop with many more GCSE and A Level students watching.  Each of the pianists played a short piece to the audience.  Richard gave his feedback to each pianist, providing advice on a range of playing techniques.

Thanks to Anna Cladingbowl, Annabel Booth, James Pages, Esme Haycocks, Leonie Collins and Sahara Bolton for performing their piece in front of the audience.

Richard gave invaluable advice and asked some challenging questions to students about how they intepret music.

A fantastic opportunity for all our pianists to learn some great new tips on how to improve technique and performance.

Overall, the workshop was a lovely occasion and a great learning experience for all those involved.

Finally, a huge thank you to Richard Meyrick for coming to visit us.
