How will you get involved?
To complement excellent academic standards, we also have a varied programme of enrichment opportunities for you to enjoy. Our students are always involved with extra-curricular activities which we feel are a wonderful chance for you to ignite the spark of a new interest or to maintain a talent you realised whilst at school. There’s always something going on!
As a college, we have enviable sports facilities. You will be able to make use of the school’s sports centre, with its well-equipped gym. We have a range of sports teams which are always looking for new members. It’s great to see sporting skills from new students and it’s a perfect way to get involved with the social side of Adams.
We also offer the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and have regular weekends away in the beautiful surroundings of Wales and the Marches.
The school’s annual production is another way of getting involved. The Drama Department at Adams College has an excellent reputation and they are always on the look-out for new talent, be that singers, dancers or stage hands. It’s great when a new talent is unveiled so why not audition for a role?
Our Music Department is very well-respected and you will soon see that there are many talented musicians within our college. You can sign up for private music lessons or can join one of our bands or choirs. We even have regular open-mic sessions which might release the hidden performer in you!
Charity and Community
There are many opportunities at Adams College to give back to our local community whilst having fun with new friends. Annual events such as the Senior Citizens’ Christmas Party are great days where we work as a college to raise money for charity and enjoy the buzz of working as a successful team.
As we’re part of Thomas Adams School, there is also the chance for you to help with lower school classes as a voluntary Teaching Assistant. Just ask your teachers if they need any help with students lower down the school and they’ll soon find a lesson (or two) for you to help with.
Academic Forum, Student Ambassadors, College Committee
In order to maintain our excellent teaching, we have a group of students who make up the Academic Forum. This voluntary group meet with the Head of College regularly to discuss ways of improving college life and to explore new initiatives.
You could also become a more active member of college by volunteering to be an ambassador. This team of willing students represent us at our College Open Evenings and Taster Days, offering the student perspective of life at Adams. If you need any advice about next steps, these are the guys to look out for at any college events you attend. You won’t miss them in their bright pink T-shirts!
The College Committee are elected in June by the students and are crucial in leading fundraising, organising social events and making things happen!
