Adams College Transition Work

Further Maths

This transition work is intended to prepare you for A level study. We would like you to work through the tasks listed.
You must bring your completed work with you on Wednesday 5th September, ready to demonstrate your understanding of the transition tasks in lessons. Teachers will test your knowledge and understanding of this work in class tests, the week beginning 17th September.

A Level further mathematics, just like A level mathematics consists of 3 sections, Pure Maths, Mechanics and Statistics. A Level further mathematics uses many of the skills you developed at GCSE, however links them all together with the topics you are learning in your maths a level lessons as well. There is a giant leap from GCSE to Further maths A level, so you will be expected to have a secure knowledge of all GCSE topics and be prepared to work hard!

Skills for success
These are the same as the mathematics A Level (so read them again), however, you need to be prepared to struggle and should ALWAYS ask for help in order to understand and secure your new knowledge.

Further maths is not just about knowing the skills but also how to apply them, so your transition work is to complete the two problem solving questions attached, to the best of your ability. Please bring these two questions in on the first lesson, with full working out shown, even if you haven’t managed to complete them.
