Adams College Transition Work

This transition work is intended to prepare you for A level study. We would like you to work through the tasks listed over the summer holidays.
You must bring your completed work with you on Wednesday 5th September, ready to demonstrate  your understanding of the transition tasks in lessons. Teachers will test your knowledge and understanding of this work in class tests, the week beginning 17th September.

Edexcel A level Geography 2016 syllabus

Physical Geography – Topic 1: Tectonic Processes and Hazards.

Produce an A4 fact sheet on a tectonic hazard of your choice (volcano, earthquake, tsunami) that has taken place during the last 12 months (June 2016 onwards) anywhere in the world. The fact file needs to be 1 side of A4 and cover the causes, impacts and management of your chosen hazard. Additional information such as photos and maps could also be included.

Extension task: Produce a 1 side fact file for one of the following past hazards: 2004 Asian tsunami, 2010 Eyafjallajokull (Iceland), 2011 Japanese tsunami.

Human Geography – Topic 8B: Migration, Identity and Sovereignty.

Using the publicprofiler website, search your surname to obtain a distribution map for 1881 and 1998. Then describe and explain the differences in distribution between the maps. You can also search for the worldwide distribution of the surname as well using, and comment on the global spread as well. Including the three maps, this work should fill no more than 2 sides of A4.

Extension task: Chose an additional surname that interests you (a celebrity, other family name, mother’s maiden name).
