Thomas Adams Students Extend Hedgerow with Woodland Trust Saplings

Students from the Thomas Adams ADA group recently took part in a fantastic environmental initiative.

Working alongside Barbara Cotterell from WACA (Wem Area Climate Action) the students have started work to extend a hedgerow on the school grounds. As part of this project, the students planted 90 saplings provided by The Woodland Trust. The project will further enhance the school’s natural environment.

The saplings planted included dog rose, hawthorn, hazel, crab apple, and dogwood. All chosen to support local wildlife and promote biodiversity. Under expert guidance, the students learned how to plant double-row hedging, a technique that helps create a strong and sustainable habitat for birds, insects, and other wildlife.

This initiative aligns with Thomas Adams’ commitment to environmental responsibility. The school has proudly achieved Gold status for its work with The Woodland Trust and remains dedicated to maintaining and improving its green spaces.

Moving forward, students will continue to monitor and care for the saplings, ensuring they develop into a healthy, thriving hedgerow that benefits both the school and the wider ecosystem.

Well done to all involved for their hard work and dedication to sustainability!
