Thomas Adams School Marks VE Day with Thoughtful Tribute and Celebrations
Today, staff and students at Thomas Adams School come together to commemorate Victory in Europe (VE) Day, reflecting on the end of World War II in Europe and the lasting significance of peace and remembrance.
The school is marking the occasion in three meaningful ways:
Form Time Reflections
To begin the day, students watch a short video that introduces the historical context and importance of VE Day. This forms the basis for thoughtful discussion and reflection during form time, helping students understand the human impact of war and the importance of honouring those who served.
2-Minute Silence at 12:00
At midday, the entire school community observes a two-minute silence in classrooms, signalled by a long bell. This moment of reflection offers students and staff the opportunity to pay their respects to those who made great sacrifices during the war.
Themed VE Day Lunch
To round off the day, the school’s catering team offers a special VE Day-themed menu, inspired by the celebratory street parties that took place in 1945. With traditional favourites and a nod to wartime fare, the lunch provides a fun and fitting way to mark the occasion. On the menu is Cottage Pie, Homity Pie, Corned Beef Hash, Classic Trifle, Victoria Sponge Butterfly Cakes, Fruit Jelly and Orange and Ginger Cake.
Thomas Adams School is proud to take this opportunity to reflect on the past while educating the next generation about the values of peace, respect, and community.
