London Adventure Inspires Year 9 City Explorers
Our Year 9 City Explorers have returned from an action-packed trip to London, filled with culture, history, learning and plenty of memorable experiences.
The adventure began with a visit to the world-famous British Museum, where students explored fascinating exhibits including Egyptian mummies, the Rosetta Stone, and treasures from Ancient Greece and Rome. After taking in centuries of history, the group enjoyed a walk through the capital, stopping at the iconic Millennium Bridge to admire some of London’s most recognisable sights.
The day concluded with dinner at Pizza Express before students headed to the theatre to watch Beetlejuice. The performance proved to be a hit, delivering an evening that was both wonderfully strange and hilariously entertaining.
Day two started with a visit to the Imperial War Museum. Students were captivated by the extensive collections of First and Second World War memorabilia and gained valuable insights from the museum’s moving Holocaust exhibition.
Following lunch, the group explored the vibrant atmosphere of Covent Garden, where students enjoyed some free time browsing the shops. After dinner at Byron Burger, it was time for another West End experience. This time, students watched the award-winning musical Wicked, which certainly lived up to its reputation and provided a spectacular end to the day.
The final day focused on literature and drama. After breakfast, students visited Borough Market, sampling a variety of delicious foodie treats before making their way to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
There, students enjoyed a guided tour of the iconic venue and took part in a Macbeth workshop, bringing their classroom learning to life. They impressed staff with their thoughtful questions and enthusiasm while learning more about the Globe’s rich history and Shakespearean performance.
Of course, no visit would be complete without a stop at the gift shop, where the English Department welcomed its newest addition, Bill the Bear, who made sure he joined the journey home.
The trip was a fantastic success, providing students with valuable educational experiences while creating lasting memories. The English Department would like to congratulate all students for their excellent behaviour, enthusiasm and engagement throughout the visit.
