Empowering Education

Curriculum Vision

Our curriculum is ambitious, engaging and inclusive. It’s carefully crafted to equip every student with essential knowledge, confidence, and a strong sense of identity, while nurturing the skills they need to thrive in our community and the wider world.

Years 7–9

Key Stage 3

All students explore a broad foundation of subjects: English, Mathematics, Sciences, Technology, IT, History, Geography, Religious Education, French, Art, Music, Drama, PSHE, and Physical Education. In Year 7, we use ability bands for English, Maths, Languages and PE; by Years 8–9, grouping extends to other subjects.

Targeted support ensures learners with additional needs flourish alongside peers. Each Spring, Year 9 students and parents are guided through informed choices for the next academic phase.

Years 10–11

Key Stage 4

Essential GCSE subjects

Core Subjects

All students study core GCSEs: English, Maths, Science, PE, and PSHE (including RE, Health and Careers). This provides a balanced academic base and supports students’ personal, social and emotional development throughout their learning journey.

International focus

Language Study

Most students continue with a Modern Foreign Language, further developing communication skills, cultural understanding and confidence. This prepares learners for a global society and enhances future academic and career opportunities.

Tailored subject choices

Subject Choices

Alongside core subjects, students select from a wide range of options: History, Geography, D&T, Business, Art, Drama, Music, Health & Social Care, Psychology, ICT and more, enabling every pupil to follow a pathway aligned to their skills and ambitions.

Sixth Form – Years 12–13

Key Stage 5

Thomas Adams Sixth Form offers a vibrant academic environment where students typically take three A-level or BTEC subjects over two years. Year 12 students benefit from five hours of subject-driven teaching weekly, plus two hours of independent study in our staffed “Study Hub.”

Students may choose up to five subjects during application, with final entries refined at interview. One self-directed Study Hub session is compulsory each day, supported by subject specialists.
