Mark Cooper
Headteacher
Mark Cooper
I started teaching at Thomas Adams in 1996, as a NQT of Physical Education and Business Studies. Since then, the school has played a major part in my life, my wife works at the school and both of my children attended Thomas Adams.
I have worked as a staff governor for 8 years before becoming Headteacher, I have always found the Governing Body forum most useful to discuss the inner running of a school with adults who bring experiences and expertise from other settings, that we can learn from; I feel this is a real strength of governance.
My aim for all of the young people I have the pleasure to work with has always been the same – to achieve their full potential.
As Headteacher, I am extremely proud of the school and of its place within the communities of Wem and North Shropshire and I am as committed as ever to continuing to provide high quality education for our school community.
Stuart Mason – Chair of Governors
I am a serving Flight Lieutenant in the RAF. I am a post-14 teacher gaining the Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status in 2012, when I was employed as an instructor at RAF Shawbury. During my time, I attended Telford College of Art and Technology, where my interest in education began and continues to this day. I am a parent of two children who attended Thomas Adams and am proud to have been a Parent Governor for several years before Chair of Governors. I have previously served as a governor at three schools. Throughout these periods, I acted as the critical friend of the Headteacher, staff and fellow governors which is key competent to be effective in the post.
Matthew Barrett – Vice Chair (Safeguarding/Adams House)
I have been teaching for 18 years, since completing my PGCE at Middlesex University, which was followed up with a MA in Teaching. I am currently a teacher of Business and Economics at Shrewsbury School and have been a boarding housemaster there for the last five years. In my role I have completed the Boarding Schools’ Association Certificate Course and I am fully aware of the relevant policies and guidance surrounding boarding. I am a member of the NEU and I try to keep up to date with issues affecting the wider education sector. I moved with my family to Shropshire in 2009. My wife works for Shrewsbury College and my three daughters all attend comprehensive schools in Shrewsbury. I am passionate about education and committed in all I do.
