At Thomas Adams School, our Geography Department offers an exciting and comprehensive curriculum that explores our world from local landscapes to global challenges. Year 7

Foundations of Geography

What is Geography? Students begin their geographical journey by exploring the fundamental question of what Geography truly encompasses, understanding the scope and importance of geographical study in today’s world.

Super Shropshire Building on our school’s proud Shropshire heritage, students explore their local area, developing fieldwork skills and understanding how geography shapes their immediate environment and community.

How do Maps Work? Essential cartographic skills are developed, ensuring students can confidently read, interpret, and create maps – fundamental tools for all geographical study.

Water Cycle Students investigate one of Earth’s most important systems, understanding the processes that provide our most vital resource and how human activity impacts water availability.

Geology Exploring the foundations of our landscapes, students discover how rock formations and geological processes create the physical world around us.

Quarry Debate Through this engaging topic, students develop critical thinking and decision-making skills while exploring the balance between economic needs and environmental protection – a perfect introduction to geographical enquiry.

Year 8

Expanding Global Perspectives

Urban World Students explore the growth of cities worldwide, understanding urbanization processes and the challenges and opportunities that arise in our increasingly urban planet.

Economic Geography Building understanding of how economic activities shape places and people’s lives, from local businesses to global trade networks.

Resources Investigating the distribution and management of Earth’s resources, students develop awareness of sustainability issues and resource conflicts.

Asia A comprehensive study of the world’s largest continent, exploring diverse cultures, economies, and environments while building regional geography knowledge.

Coasts Students examine coastal processes and landforms, understanding both the beauty and the challenges of these dynamic environments where land meets sea.

Weather and Climate Developing understanding of atmospheric processes, weather patterns, and climate systems that influence human activities and natural environments worldwide.
